The fact that Sri Lanka is famous for its tea and gems we have learned. But not everyone knows that there are also thriving dairy farming. And it happens in the region called Little New Zealand, where the idyllic meadows, as in advertising chocolate vypasayutsya herd imported cows.

1

NC small town located in the vicinity Ambewela, in a 17-km from Nuwara Eliya (where you can get a train ). It seems close, but the state of local roads prove to you that everything in this world is relative. So count on 40-50 minutes the road.

For transport we chose the bus and went around nezaborom cherished inscription “Milk Farm”. To our great regret, it became clear that this — central office. Until his farm a few kilometers, but the bus was not immediately returned. Further movement had to carry on foot.

2

After a little time Zealand ceased to give us such too small — rather average. During allocated vast areas of pasture and advantageous geographical position and height — made "Zealand" favorite place for extraction of wind electricity.

3

Along the way are starting to face the first cow, but not yet on an industrial scale:

4

Cattle completely given herself freely vypasayetsya meadows.

5

But the area still fenced, especially not popaseshsya.

6

Halfway we picked up milk to the farm and we've got the breeze:

7

It is worth considering the local economy:

8

Constant companions are cows and herons fly. Heron constantly accompanied by cows, and some — constantly chase flies. Such is the cycle of food in nature.

9

Especially interesting horned holds electric fence:

10

Those who violate the law on freedom of movement, held under house arrest. By the way, visiting the farm you once again have to face discrimination on a tourist basis. Entrance to the farm paid for Sri Lankans — 50 rupees, the guests of the country — 100 rupees.

11

The farm Ambewela ayrshyrskoyi keep cows and Holstein breed. These breeds best suited to dairy farming.

12

Milk collected using milking machines. The demonstration process is every day at 12:30:

13

14

Collected milk immediately poured in milk.

15

16

And sent to Colombo, where milk is pasteurized and bottled in containers.

17

In cows, the farm has doyatsya goats.

Although the collection, of course, involved women:

22

How, actually, and loading / unloading:

23

While one part kizonok dinner:

24

On the other vydoyuyut milk:

25

Then, just like in grandmother in the village — milk is filtered through gauze:

26

There is also a maternity ward:

27

Tots eating something painfully like a filler for cat litter:

28

And here is the main goat on a farm:

29

Climatic and economic conditions Ambewela make this place ideal for dairy farming. So the only country in the milk powder factory is here.

30

In the vicinity Ambewela enough space even for one farm — New Zealand Farm, but we have to attend it did not.

31

The farm also operates a cafe, where during the tour you can drink (buy for the money) glass of fresh milk. For the boldest forecasts and depending on the level of interest, duration of the visit to the farm — 1-2 hours. People are too sensitive to specific odors enough and 30 minutes.

Overall, visiting the farm, it seems that everything is so perfect, that any lankiyets day has the opportunity to taste milk or cheese. Although in reality it is not so — cow's milk in Sri Lanka is expensive (about 50 cents per liter) and its use is already a sign of well-being. Most of the population eats less fashionable buyvolovym milk. Because it is produced and the cheese which are significantly different from the usual us. This oily greasy product, which is used together with honey and consistency similar to sour cream.
